The Ruff occurrence is located 1.2 kilometres south of the Atlin Ruffner mine (104N 011), about 18 kilometres northeast of the community of Atlin.

The Ruff showing is underlain by quartz monzonite of the Middle Jurassic Fourth of July Creek batholith (Three Sisters Plutonic Suite). Lamprophyre dikes occur in fault shear zones that have steep north dips.

Two steeply dipping diorite dikes cut the intrusion in an east-west direction and are approximately 75 metres apart. The Ruff dike strikes 085 degrees, dips 81 degrees north and is typically 2 metres wide. The dark green diorite is mineralized with quartz, pyrite, sphalerite, molybdenite, arsenopyrite and minor chalcopyrite. Molybdenite is also found in silicified fractures in the intrusive country rock of the hangingwall. Four drillholes through the structure yielded an average assay of 0.215 per cent MoS2, 0.46 per cent lead, 1.5 per cent zinc, 104.92 grams per tonne silver and 1.10 grams per tonne gold over 2.20 metres (Assessment Report 10179).

The Vulcan dike strikes 075 degrees, dips 75 degrees north and is typically 2 metres wide. The diorite is fractured and locally brecciated, sheared and chloritic. Elsewhere it is silicified and massive. The structure is mineralized with pyrite, sphalerite, arsenopyrite and minor chalcopyrite. Five drillholes through the dike yielded an average assay of 0.30 per cent lead, 1.64 per cent zinc, 49.03 grams per tonne silver and 0.17 grams per tonne gold over 1.95 metres (Assessment Report 10179).

Cyclone Developments Ltd. controlled five mineral claims totalling 35 units and two Crown grants from 1979 to 1982. In 1981, a program of trenching, sampling and diamond drilling was carried out on the Ruff and Vulcan veins of Cyclone Developments Ltd. A total of 38 samples cut in nine trenches along a strike length of 90 metres was completed on the Ruff vein. Nine NQ drillholes for a total of 474 metres were drilled on the Ruff vein.

In 2000-02, S. Kenwood conducted short programs of reconnaissance mapping, sampling, and limited prospecting in an effort to explore for extensions to the Vulcan and Ruff veins.

Global Drilling Solutions Inc. acquired the majority of the claims comprising the current Ruby Creek Project in the spring of 2016 from Adanac Moly Corporation. For the 2016 field season Global chose to target gold vein deposits structurally controlled by faulting within existing placer creeks with the main focus on Boulder Creek. In 2017, Global conducted geochemical sampling, drilling and ground geophysics on the Ruby Creek property. In 2018, Global carried out further geochemical sampling and drilling on this property. It’s mentioned that the Ruby Creek property remains of high interest for not only gold/molybdenum but also for silver and copper based on the exploration work during 2017/2018 (Assessment Report 38256).

In 2020, Stuhini Exploration conducted mapping, prospection, ground geophysics and geochemical sampling on the Ruby Creek property. Rock samples were collected in the vicinity of the Ruff occurrence; sample 1997463 returned 173 grams per tonne silver, 1.94 per cent lead, 14.76 per cent zinc, 0.003 per cent molybdenum, 0.12 per cent copper and 2.6 grams per tonne gold (Assessment Report 39374). In 2021, an airborne SkyTEM survey was conducted by Stuhini on the Ruby Creek property, which revealed a number of regional trends across the property.
